Election 2019

As mandated by our By-Laws, we will be conducting an election on Sunday, January 13, 2019 at the Chian Federation during our Vasilopita.

6 Board Members; John Bougiamas, John Pilavas, Panagiotis Billis, Kalliope Barlis, Demetrios Pilavas and George Kakarides will be vacating their positions and these open slots will be voted on by all members in Good Standing.

Due to the potential for inclement weather and the fact that our nominations process took longer than expected, we will be extending absentee voting until January 22nd. We will then post results online here and on FaceBook.

We are pleased to invite you to our Annual Vasilopita to be held on Sunday, January 13, 2019 at 1PM at the Chian Federation at 44-01 Broadway, Astoria New York. As you are receiving this letter you are currently a member in good standing of our organization and as such, we invite you to come join us for this celebration. We will recap the current years activities and highlight some of the events and activities we hope will occur in 2019.

This is also the time of year when membership renewals are requested. We encourage you to renew your membership which will expire on December 31st, 2018. You can renew your membership by visiting sikousis.org/membership. Please click for Renewal (Family) or Renewal (Member) and make your payment and you will continue being a member for the 2019 Year. You can also come to the Vasilopita Event and make your payment in person via cash, check or credit card.

By-Laws Changes

In the Spring of 2018 voted on some changes to the By-Laws of the Sikousis Syllogo. These changes were made to address resignations from the Board as well as to modify the terms of the Board Members to ensure that there would be continuity after every election.

The changes can be found here.

Effectively, we have staggered elections. Every year either 4 or 6 Board Members will be voted on to take on a 2 year term.

500th Anniversary

Today, we proudly celebrate the 500th anniversary of the founding of our village Agios Georgios Sikousis. We are proud of what a handful of disparate, poor, farmers from the surrounding villages, built when called by monk Sofronios Sepsis to populate the abandoned monastery of Agios Georgios.

In the last five-hundred years, with the sweat of their labor and the love in their heart, our ancestors tamed the wild mountains of central Chios to create a village we are proud to call our ancestral home.

The St. George Sikousis Syllogos of America, join the Agiorgousoi around the globe to salute the accomplishments of the past 500 years and wish our beloved village “may your next 500 years be full of peace and prosperity.”

Here’s to the next 500 years!
